Somen is a geologist with over 16 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with expertise in acreage, basin, block and prospect level evaluation. He has M.Tech and Ph.D degrees in Applied Geology from IIT, Kharagpur. He had served Reliance Industries Limited (E and P group) as a Senior Geologist for almost a decade (both in Domestic and International arena) which includes reservoir characterization, prospect generation, well planning, reserve calculations, Geochemical interpretation, regional level data synthesis, Risk analysis using Petroleum system modelling and played an active role in Business development activities including potential opportunities scouting in NELP rounds and International bidding stages in Conventional hydrocarbon exploration. In addition to that in Unconventional domain, he is also associated with quite number of business opportunities like in Oil and acreages and Shale Gas block scouting. In 2011, he joined Schlumberger India as the Team Lead effectively looking after consulting activities related to basin analysis, risk analysis and groomed a team of geologist and taught few training courses to domestic and International clients, government regulators. He is now advising ONGC in its Hydrocarbon Resource Assessment projects of all Indian basins, actively supporting and quality checking and implementing workflows.
